Dear Minister Hatt, Dear Mrs. Bonde, Dear Dr. Birol,

The International Energy Agency has ascertained that the energy policies currently adopted worldwide are insufficient if the average temperature increase is to be kept below 2°C. Further efforts are needed. Currently IEA associates are travelling the world to discuss the matter and to push decisions.

It needs to be clear that climate change can only be limited if carbon resources stay underground. It is not enough to reduce annual carbon emissions while taking any coal resources from the earth and dumping them in the atmosphere. The deceleration of carbon exploitation alone is not sufficient.

This Friday the IEA delegation is discussing in Stockholm, Sweden. Sweden is the home country of Vattenfall, an global corporation whose business model is based on the conversion of coal into heat and electricity. Vattenfall is currently opening new lignite surface mines in Lusatia, a region in eastern Germany, additionally to the mines already operating. Thus, not only thousands of local people are displaced but deforestation and the transformation of fertile agricultural land into „recultivated” landscapes are thereby accepted. In the face of the new IEA report we would like to encourage that Vattenfall shall step forward considering world-wide temperature limits by determining to leave coal underground in Lusatia.

Dear Mrs. Bonde: Please position yourself in this matter!
Dear Dr. Birol: Please request Vattenfall to make a profound statement about this idea!
Dear Minister Hatt: Please set the course in Sweden to allow Lusatia to become a pioneer of global climate protection!
